Erol Bulut requests January signings to aid Cardiff City playoff push

Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut has warned he needs squad additions in January if his side are to be successful in their playoff bid this season. Few expected the Bluebirds to be involved in a top six battle this term, but heading into their final game of 2023, City are just two points off the playoff spots.

That gap could widen against league-leaders Leicester City in Friday, but Cardiff have plenty of time remaining to get into the thick of the playoff conversation, and the Championship often has a wide open top six race until late in the campaign.

Though, Bluebirds boss Bulut knows he needs help in the form of new signings, with his side having been exposed against some of the better sides in the division this season, particularly since Aaron Ramsey suffered his injury.

“I think our owner Vincent Tan knows from our chairman (Mehmet Dalman) what we have to do, because I had talks with our chairman,” Bulut said in his most recent press conference. “These are only good things for Cardiff City. I am asking for players [who can help] push a little bit more, or stay in the level we are in right now.”

Speaking about the playoff race, Bulut added: “We are only two points away from the play-offs. I said always we want to be around there. But the second part of the season will be more difficult in my opinion, so we have to do something.

“The last four or five games, we have seen we need to add players. We have to add some players to push for a little bit more. If we can do something it will be great; if not, I have to manage with the team until the end of the season. But he [Tan] understood that we have to do something on the market and I hope he can help us with this.”
