Karlan Grant’s likely recovery time after Cardiff City forward suffers injury blow

Cardiff City could be without one of theykey forwards for a significant period of time after a fresh injury blow on Friday night. The Bluebirds came up short at home to leaders Leicester City, losing 2-0, but the defeat may not have been the biggest blow.

Forward Karlan Grant limped off in the first half, forcing Erol Bulut into a change, and Grant could now be set for a significant period on the sidelines. The West Brom loanee clutched his hamstring before going off, and City boss Bulut confirmed it was his hamstring after the game.

He said: “It’s a hamstring, maybe a rupture. Tomorrow we will know more, when he has the scan. It doesn’t look good.” As for what that means for Grant, everything will depend on the severity of the rupture, with damage ranging from grade one to three.

In the case of a grade one, Grant would be looking at three to five weeks, according to most medical guides, while a grade two would be more like six to eight weeks. In the worst case, a grade three could require surgery and has a recovery time as long as three months.

The 26-year-old has scored four times and assisted twice in 24 league games for the Bluebirds this season. Only Kion Etete has scored more with five, and Cardiff now face weeks without one of their lead scorers, potentiall forcing them into the January market.
