Cardiff City closing in on striker after ‘successful’ weekend talks

Cardiff City are said to be closing in on the signing of Serbian striker Andrej Ilic ahead of the transfer deadline later this week. The Bluebirds have been searching for a striker throughout this month, but they have struggled to manage a breakthrough.

January is arguably the hardest window to sign players, and that is especially the case with strikers, given no team wants to lose their striker midway through the season. But it does look as if Cardiff have finally made a breakthrough, with TV-2 now saying negotiations with Norwegian club Valerenga have now progressed to the latter stages after successful talks over the weekend.

The Bluebirds were said to have seen early bids rejected, but it’s suggested a deal worth around £3million is now on its way towards completion. The signing is a big statement from the Bluebirds, who have hardly spent a penny in years due to a transfer embargo and a general lack of investment.

Ilic has only been with Valerenga since the summer after joining from RFS, but his nine goals in 15 league games have caught the eye of City. The 6ft2″ striker also managed 33 goals in 65 league games for former club RFS, and he is still only 23 years of age. The Bluebirds may finally have their striker, providing Ilic agrees to personal terms.
