Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut reveals two signings are ‘close’ amid striker search

Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut says the club are ‘close’ to completing two signings, while the search for a striker goes on. The Bluebirds boss has been clear in his desire to improve his squad this month, but it’s no secret that any shopping will be on a sensible budget.

A striker is top of Bulut’s wishlist, but it may not only be a striker that Cardiff sign, and we may find out very soon who will be in through the doors at the Cardiff City Stadium. That’s because City boss Bulut has said two deals are close to being wrapped up.

“We are close to two players, yes, but we haven’t finalised anything. It can be quick, tomorrow, but it can also be next week that it is finished,” Bulut said during Thursday’s press conference.

Bulut was also asked about interest in Mehmet Umut Nayir, and he namechecked Kieffer Moore again when discussing Cardiff’s striker search more generally.

“It is not only him,” he added on Nayir. “We have a few players, strikers, on our target. We cannot focus on only one player. If we don’t get it then we don’t have another option. Umut Nayir is one of those players we are interested in, like Kieffer Moore, like how we said at the start of the season.

“We want him [Moore], but two or three clubs are interested in him. It’s also a point from his club that they need to buy a striker. It takes time for them to let him go. And I lose time because of this. So I need options. I have these options, Umut Nayir and one or two other players where I can immediately take one of them. If not then I have nothing. It’s not only up to us. It’s also a bit about the club, the player, like this we will continue.”
