Cardiff City ‘eye’ defender Man Utd released last summer

Cardiff City are being linked with a move for former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe as they look to add depth at the back. The Bluebirds are hoping to make a number ofusignings this month to aid their playoff dream, but they are going to have to shop on the cheap.

Loans will likely prove important, but it’s unclear whether Tuanzebe would be a loan or permanent deal. That’s because the former Red Devils is only under contract at current club Ipswich Town under the end of the season having penned a one-year deal in the summer.

The defender was reportedly wanted by a number of clubs after his release from United in the summer, and that was despite a disappointing loan spell with Stoke City last season. Ipswich won the battle, but they haven’t used the 26-year-old all that much.

Tuanzebe has only made six league appearances for the automatic promotion-chasing Tractor Boys, and he could now be on the move. According to Sky Sports, Cardiff are interested as they look to add options at the back following the departure of Jonathan Panzo back to Nottingham Forest. Though, it’s added that other Championship clubs are also sniffing around Tuanzebe.

The 26-year-old is a centre-back, and he could add competition for Dimitrios Goutas and Mark McGuinness, who have both impressed this season.
