Cardiff City’s predicted final position compared to Swansea City, Leeds United, Leicester City and rivals

Cardiff City have enjoyed a solid season so far, but where are they predicted to end up? The Bluebirds were not expected to compete for a playoff spot this season, but they are currently just three points off the top six heading into this weekend’s FA Cup action.

Erol Bulut has defied the odds up to this point despite having a squad few thought was good enough to be in this position at this point of the season. Naturally, there are some clubs who have pulled away early on, including all of the three relegated sides, with leaders Leicester City on course for a record points tally, while Southampton have raced up to third in recent weeks, with Leeds United fourth.

Newly promoted Ipswich Town have been the surprise package, currently in second place, but they know they will have to be at their very best to hold of those below between now and the end of the season.

While the Championship is one of the most unpredictable leagues in the game, FootballWebPages have used data from the season so far to try to predict the result of every game between now and the end of the season, coming up with a predicted final table as a result.

Cardiff are predicted to miss out on the top six on their current pace, albeit only by five points down in 11th. What is surprising is that Swansea City are being tipped to finish just three points worse off. Five points currently separate the two Welsh sides, but Swansea look particularly poor at this point, while they have just appointed former Notts County boss Luke Williams to end a long period without a boss.

The current top two are predicted to go up automatically, and with the Foxes having a huge points total of 117. That would smash Reading’s current record of 106. West Brom, Southampton and Leeds United are tipped to make the playoffs, while Coventry City are being tipped for back-to-back playoff seasons. You can see the full predicted table below.
