Cardiff City see Championship fixture postponed due to FA Cup

Cardiff City will get a weekend off later this month after failing to progress through the FA Cup third round. The Bluebirds were beaten 4-0 by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, although the game was not as straight forward as it the scoreline make it out to be.

City missed two penalties with the score at 1-0 and they also missed other chances to get back into the game. Erol Bulut’s men are out nonetheless, and they will now get a weekend off due to one of their upcoming Championship opponents progressing through to the fourth round.

Blackburn Rovers are that team, and they will face Welsh club Wrexham on January 27, forcing Cardiff’s home clash with Rovers – which was supposed to be on the same date – to be postponed. A new date will now be found, and it will almost certainly be on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night.

There is no obvious potential for a further postponement as far as Cardiff are concerned, at least not due to the FA Cup. The Bluebirds are set to make the short trip to face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on March 2, and Bristol City face West Ham in a third round replay. Should the Robins win that and a fourth round tie, they would play the fifth round tie on the Wednesday (February 28) before that clash with Cardiff, with the fifth round taking place mid-week, and thus not requiring fixture changes for the weekend league fixtures.
