Cardiff City compared to Swansea City, Bristol City and rivals in all-time Championship table

Cardiff City have spent much of the last two decades in the Championship, but where do they rank in the all-time table? The Bluebirds were promoted to the second tier in 2003, and they have spent every season barring two in the league since.

City have won promotion to the Premier League twice during that time, but they lasted just one season in the top flight after each of those occasions. Things haven’t always been rosy, but City have often found themselves battling for a playoff spot during their time in the Championship.

But other clubs have spent even more time in the Championship or the old Division Two, meaning there is an interesting look to the all-time table, as recorded by Transfermarkt. Though, impressively, Cardiff are second in that table with 2,080 points. There is a big gap to top spot, with Fulham on as many as 3,341, while Nottingham Forest in third place are 74 points behind the Bluebirds and losing further ground this season, given they are in the Premier League.

Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Derby County make up the rest of the top six. Swansea City are all the way down in 28th with 1,323 points, given they have spent much of their time lower down in the pyramid with the exception of their successful run in the Premier League. Bristol City are in 16th spot with 1,564 points.

Wrexham are down in 75th position with 112 second tier points having played as many as 89 games at that level. You can see an image of the top 28 teams in the table below.
