How Cardiff City Stadium’s capacity compares to homes of Leeds United, Sunderland and others

Cardiff City were not always known for having large stadium, with Ninian Park having been rather average in terms of capacity for a second tier ground. The Cardiff City Stadium is a very different arena, though, and its initial capacity when it opened in 2009 has since been increased.

The Bluebirds added an extra tier to the stadium after their first Premier League experience, and while it hasn’t always been in use, it has come in handy for Wales games, as well as some of the Championship games during the promotion season, along with the whole of the subsequent Premier League campaign.

The good news is that the extra stand has put Cardiff among the leaders when it comes to the biggest Championship stadiums, and the capacity at the Cardiff City Stadium is almost triple of that of the smallest stadium in the second tier.
