Cardiff City wrap up loan signing of Liverpool defender

Cardiff City have wrapped up the signing of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips. The Bluebirds have struggled to complete signings during this window, but they are hoping to welcome a flurry of late arrivals before Wednesday night’s deadline.

One player who has now arrived is Liverpool defender Phillips, who joins on loan until the end of the season. Phillips has struggled for game time at Liverpool, completing a short loan spell with Celtic last season.

The 26-year-old is a centre-back by trade, but he can also operate at full-back, making him a big asset for Erol Bulut, who needs more depth at both centre-back and full-back.

Phillips hasn’t played all that much during his career as a whole, with Liverpool keeping him around as a back-up for the most part. But he needs to play at this stage of his career, and unlikely to feature at Anfield in the remaining months of the season, he has been allowed to leave on a loan deal.

He has now become Cardiff’s first first-team signing of the January transfer window, and more are likely to follow, with the club hoping to snap up striker Andrej Ilic, while an enquiry has been submitted regarding Celtic midfielder David Turnbull.
