Leeds United boss Daniel Farke issues injury update ahead of Cardiff City clash

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has been speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Cardiff City on Saturday. The Whites are currently battling for automatic promotion, seven points off second place after a disappointing run of form through the turn of the year.

The Bluebirds, meanwhile, are chasing a playoff spot, three points off the top six and keen to close the gap with a win against one of their old rivals. Cardiff have a strong record against Leeds over recent times, and the two sides drew 2-2 on the first day of the new season.

Aside from that, Leeds have struggled away from home this season, with their superb home form being key to their promotion charge so far. Whites boss Farke has addressed that away form in his pre-match press conference, saying: “We are not happy with the outcome in our last league away games.

“I think it was a pretty mature performance at Peterborough. The last away performances a bit unlucky. I want us to show resilience when perhaps there are decisions against us in away games. We have shown already this season we can be there with top performances and results and want to return to this behaviour.”

Farke also issued an injury update ahead of his side’s trip to South Wales, adding: “Illan [Meslier] is thank god, back, and he will return back to the goal if nothing major happens in the next training session. Sam Byram joined us in team training today, Ian Poveda had illness at the start of the week – I think both will be able to travel with us to Cardiff.

“The same with Joffy, he was out but back in training. The bad news is Pascal Struijk will still be out for this game, no chance to travel with us. Liam Cooper is a major doubt, he was not able to train, he still report some groin issues.”
