Erol Bulut’s upbeat verdict hints at Cardiff City stay after transfer drama

Cardiff city may have saved their head coach with their late flurry of January transfer business. The Bluebirds endured a frustrating January window for the most part, struggling to land new signings.

A poor run of form continued over the opening month of 2024, and head coach Bulut was left questioning his future ahead of his contract expiring at the end of this summer. The Turkish boss admitted he wasn’t sure over whether to stay on as manager given some of the issues at the club.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman went on to affirm that Bulut was an ‘important part’ of the club’s plans going forward, and that statement was followed by a number of new signings, most of which came during the final two days of the window.

And after Cardiff defeated Watford away from home on Saturday, there is now a completely different outlook, even for Bulut, who now seems much more upbeat about his role and his team’s prospects.

“In the past I have spoken about transfers, we went [to Plymouth] with 16 players plus under-21s players, so now we have made quality transfers, four or five, so when we have changes, we can make changes,” Bulut said after the win at Vicarage Road. “I hope, until the end of the season we don’t have injuries again. I think now we are in a better position than before.

“Before, when we had two injuries that put the team back with creating chances. We were fighting, but fighting is not everything. You have to score and we couldn’t do that. Now it looks much, much better.”
