Manager admits he wants to sign Cardiff City player

Derby County boss Paul Warne has admitted he already wants to keep Cardiff City loanee Ebou Adams. The midfielder joined the Rams on loan for the rest of the season after his time at the African Cup of Nations.

Adams has only made 11 first-team appearances for the Bluebirds since joining from Forest Green Rovers in 2022. The midfielder is 28 years of age, but he was being asked to make a big step up to the second tier with City.

Struggling to see match action, he was sent to League One promotion candidates Derby, and he has won over most within three league appearances there. In fact, Rams boss Warne has already suggested he wants to keep Adams full-time, although Cardiff seem to have made it clear they want to keep him.

“He is very much a Cardiff player and will back himself to fight for a place in their team. However, the weirdest thing is while you want him to be great, if he is outstanding then everybody else sees it too,” Adams said, as per the Derby Telegraph.

“If he plays well for us and is part of a promotion season, then he won’t be a secret. Wanting to keep certain players and making it happen are too different things, but I would like to be in that conversation. He is an ideal fit for us but there is a long way to go before those decisions are made.”
