New Cardiff City man gets plenty of love after saying goodbye to Celtic

Cardiff City’s new signing David Turnbull has said goodbye to former club Celtic, and it seems he was a popular figure in the dressing room at his old club and beyond.

City signed the creative midfielder on a £2million deal on deadline day, with Celtic cashing in ahead of Turnbull’s contract expiring at the end of the season. Turnbull spend four years with the Hoops, racking up 100 league appearances along the way, and after a long stint at Parkhead, he has taken to Instagram to say goodbye to fans and teammates.

He wrote: “Well… After 3 and a half great years full of ups and downs it’s time to say goodbye! 134 appearances for this club is way more than I could have imagined at the start of this journey and 6 trophies to add on top of that.

“A big thank you to the fans who supported me. To all the staff who I have worked with for believing in me and always trying to help! Also to the players I have made some friends for life and memories I will never forget. It’s been a pleasure”

These were some of the replies from former teammates and other recognisable names:

Joe Hart: “Tell em Davey lad. Good luck pal.”

Kieran Tierney: “Good luck my man.”

Mortiz Jenz: “All the best mate.”

Tony Watt: “What a player! Numbers machine. Cardiff got themselves a gem.”

Elsewhere, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has already explained why Celtic cashed in on Turnbull, saying: “Obviously he was in the last year of his contract so I felt it was best for us and for him to get out and play. He has done well here. It hasn’t worked out quite how he wanted it to, but he is a good guy, he worked very hard and now he will have the chance to have a permanent place to play.”
