Derby County boss issues update on future of exiled Cardiff City star

Derby County boss Paul Warne has responded to a question over the future of Cardiff City player Ebou Adams. The midfielder featured sparingly for the Bluebirds this season and was loaned to the Rams in the January transfer window.

Since then, Adams has performed superbly and consistently for his loan club, helping them to move into second spot in League One. The Rams are battling Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley for second place and promotion back to the Championship.

With Adams out of contract in the summer of 2025, Cardiff may have a decision to make over Adams this summer, but Derby boss Warne has made it clear that the decision will come from the Welsh club rather than Derby, who will be hopeful of landing him on a full time basis.

“First and foremost he has been excellent and I think the world of Ebou,” Warne told the Derby Telegraph. “But this sounds like a football manager answer, which isn’t like me, but he’s Cardiff’s player.

“They’ve kindly loaned him to us and while he wasn’t in their plans for this period of time, it doesn’t mean he won’t be in their plans for the next period. I suppose you could argue that he’s still got potentially seven and I hate to say it but 10 games to keep trying to impress us. He’s got an opportunity to try and win something here, but fundamentally, he’s Cardiff’s player. It’s probably less likely than more likely.”
