Cardiff City battle Rangers, Swansea City and others for bargain midfielder

Cardiff City are said to be interested in a deal to sign soon to be former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron. The Bluebirds are reportedly one of a number of clubs tracking the 21-year-old.

Barron is out of contract with this current club this summer, and it seems he will take the opportunity to test his talents at a higher level. Though, despite the fact he is out of contract, any club willing to sign Barron will still owe Aberdeen £500,000 in training compensation, according to reports.

Daily Record report that Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle, Swansea City and Rangers are all alongside Cardiff in showing an interest in snapping up the 21-year-old.

The Scotland under-21s international already has 59 league appearances under his belt at Aberdeen, and he doesn’t turn 22 until late August. Barron could be a bargain signing for someone this summer.

Barron’s European wish

Barron has hinted that he may want to play in Europe going forward, perhaps handing Rangers an edge in the transfer race. He said last winter, as cited by the Daily Record: “The European stage is where you want to be playing. It has been brilliant for me to be able to say I have been at that level. But I want to come back and do it again and it’s now about us getting back to where we want to be by making sure we are back in Europe.

“The way we have played in Europe this season shows we have to take confidence in our performances. It’s something we should be proud of coming up against the teams we have played and producing good displays. Yes we are disappointed not to have qualified, but that says it all. We know we will get to where we want to be, come the end of the season, but it’s just going to take time. I really believe we will kick on.”
