Cardiff City man told to stay put amid Premier League ‘interest’

Cardiff City star Rubin Colwill has been told to stay put amid links with newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town.

Links emerged this week with reports claiming that Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is a keen admirer of Colwill. The youngster has become a key part of the Bluebirds’ first team over the last couple of years, though he has found consistent starts hard to come by on the whole.

Still, he is recognised as one of the brightest talents in the current squad, and Premier League interest would be no surprise, with Erol Bulut having admitted as much recently.

But as far as interest from Ipswich goes, former Sheffield Wednesday man Carlton Palmer believes Colwill should stay where he is, at least for now.

“The expectation is that Colwill will stay where he is for now, the attacking midfield player didn’t have the most productive of campaigns last time, only providing three combined goals and assists in 36 league appearances,” Palmer told Football League World

“But that can be caveated because he only started 14 of those matches, and played an average of 45 minutes per game. He is a talented player, and Cardiff will be aiming to hold on to him, and for the player himself there is no point going to Ipswich Town where you’re not going to play.

“They’ve just been promoted to the Premier League, and you’ll just become part of their squad, so it’s better to stay and continue his education at Cardiff City.”
