Cardiff City set to confirm Erol Bulut stay after ‘agreement’ reached

Cardiff City are said to have reached an agreement in principle with Erol Bulut. Talks between the Bluebirds and the Turkish boss have been going on for weeks despite City achieving a top-half finish just 12 months after narrowly dodging relegation.

Bulut did not do enough to convince owner Vincent Tan despite significantly outperforming recent appointments. Talks over a new deal did not begin until after the season, and time is running out given the former Fenerbahce boss is out of terms at the end of July.

But the BBC and others have now reported that a deal has been reached in principle, with the confirmation from the club likely to arrive today or on Wednesday. Bulut made it clear that he wanted more than one year on his deal, with Tan hoping to go year-to-year having paid out on managerial sackings aplenty over the years.

Bulut understandably wanted to have security in a bid to build long-term, and while the details of the deal have not been confirmed, an agreement suggests some middle ground was found.
