Aaron Ramsey’s likely Cardiff City return date revealed after lengthy layoff

Cardiff City are finally close to welcoming back Aaron Ramsey after more than three months. Ramsey was the star signing coming into this season, and he did not disappoint with his early performances.

The 33-year-old netted three times in six league appearances before picking up a knee injury halfway through the second month of the season. It has been a frustrating time for Ramsey since, but it seems he is finally closing in on a return.

Speaking ahead of Cardiff’s home clash with Leicester on Friday, Erol Bulut said: “He can start (training) with us in one week or 10 days. We don’t want to hurry him because if he gets injured again, his season is over. We have to be really careful.”

Ramsey formed an important part of Bulut’s midfield in the early days of the season, and he could feel like a new signing should he return in Janaury, with Cardiff in need of some extra quality, particularly in the midfield. The Bluebirds have been rushed on the ball in the midfield over recent weeks, and they desperately need a player who can keep the ball and slow things down to give the men ahead the time to make worthwhile runs.

Though, as Bulut says, Ramsey’s safe return is not foregone conclusion, and should everything go well, it will still take the veteran midfielder some time to get back to full fitness given he has only played a month-and-a-half of action this season.

If Ramsey does return in January, the most likely date seems to be either the home clash with Leeds United on January 13 or the trip to Home Park to take on Plymouth Argyle on January 20. Cardiff also have a home clash with Blackburn Rovers on January 27 if Ramsey’s return takes a little longer.
